See, that’s what the app is perfect for.

Sounds perfect Wahhhh, I don’t wanna

Next batch of miscellaneous birgworld beasties!

5. The Ukarask Bird: this mid-sized avian patrols coastal regions in search of fishy prey. However, it is also an enthusiastic scavenger.

6. Tarlak: A large, aggressive omnivore. They spend much of their waking time scratching through the dirt for buried feathervane seeds.

image

7. Water Spirit: Also known as fairy grass, the stiff, mucous coated tendrils of this strange creature emerge from slow moving waterways when the sun sets, and glitter with bioluminescent nodes to entice “insects” to enter a sticky trap.

image

8. The Scroop: A small, bottom dwelling marine animal that sucks up smaller animals like a vacuum hose. When startled, they can just as quickly eject water to scoot backwards.

October is here, and this year I’m working off a list of fantastical beast names (#Strangetober on Instagram) and making them into birgworld fauna

So as not to spam the world, I think I’ll share them in groups of 4 like this (assuming I can keep this up!)

1. The Maned Besk: Males of this species bear enormous, pincerlike forelimbs used for grappling opponents in an attempt to flip them over.

2. The Narhegg: A fox sized predator that subdues prey larger than itself with the grip of its scissorlike jaws

image

3. The stinking Saalg: A small omnivore that defends itself using a foul smelling secretion from its two “tails”

image

4. The Leatherwing Fairy: Aside from the texture of its wings, this sparrow sized bugbird is noteworthy for its habit of feeding on the blood of larger animals when its preferred fruits are not in season

Just a wee bit O' fan art. Had to change the colour pallet cause SPORE doesn't do that.

Anonymous asked:

I get that the Birdbug world is still in development but I was kind of wondering who is Swooce's immediate family as you once mentioned that Swooce is estranged from her natal clan but I was curious who her mother is and if she has any siblings or other close relatives and had a strong relationship with any of them even after being being estranged.

Swooce hails form the ‘Fall-River clan; a large, well-to-do family of textile makers. Her first years were actually spent in a Twowi city outside her natal clan, because her mother was something of a rebellious spirit who had decided to leave the family and start a new clan with some friends. They never quite managed to establish themselves and the group disbanded, forcing the mother to come home in shame, with nothing to show for this abandonment but a bastard kid. Being a conservative family where pressure to appeal to the matriarchs is high, mother and child were given the cold shoulder by most of the extended family. I wanna say a few of the siblings/aunts were kinder, but nevertheless Swooce’s mum started to project her frustrations onto her kid. She pressured Swooce to leave the family and join a guild, and Swooce hasn’t seen much of her since.

chronicsheepdeprivation asked:

I'm genuinely curious, since in Birdbug society sex isn't as "sacred" as it is for humans, do they still use/have forms of protection? Are there issues with sexually transmitted diseases in colonies?

Love your species development and how in depth this world is by the way!

I don’t know if I’d say sex is any less ‘sacred’ to them than it is for us, but thanks to spermatophores, birgs do have a lot more control over fluid exchange than we do. In more remote Twowi clan-towns, the traders that come in to court them are often also their business partners, so bringing “soiled goods” to these communities could tarnish their professional reputation as well as their social ties. Lone vagrants or bachelor groups without any kind of official recognition (as marked with a seal issued by the noble clan of that region) are viewed with suspicion and may be barred outright from proposing at the spring and fall festivals.

Things get harder to track in cities, where intermingling between family clans and bachelor guilds is far easier, and any unwashed nobody can find love in a seedy grooming-parlor, away from the prying eyes of society. However, an unclean gifter can still be held accountable for spreading venereal disease and may even be cast from his guild if the clanmember he mated with hailed from a prominent trade partner. Transfer from receiver to gifter is much rarer, dismissed as impossible by most clans.

In general, the only real precaution taken beyond social pressure is one of cleanliness. Any would-be gifter must present his package with freshly washed hands. Even when no gift-exchange takes place, mutual handwashing (often using an herbal tincture or by directly rubbing certain ‘purifying’ plants on the hands), usually followed by extensive grooming is common practice before anything else proceeds.
